ABSTRACT

【Objective】 To analyze the disease burden of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in China, Japan and South Korea from 1990 to 2019, so as to provide scientific basis for rational allocation of health resources. 【Methods】 Data were obtained from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019. The incidence, prevalence and years lived with disability(YLD)were used to analyze the burden, and the average annual percent change and annual percent change were calculated. 【Results】 The incidence, prevalence and YLD rate in China were much higher than those in Japan and South Korea. The crude incidence in China, Japan and South Korea increased by 2.56%, 1.49% and 3.59% per year from 1990 to 2019, the crude prevalence rate increased by 2.70%, 2.34% and 4.03%, and the crude YLD rate increased by 2.68%, 2.33% and 4.04%. After age standardization, the disease burden in China decreased with time, but the trend was not significant, and the standardized rate in Japan and Korea increased significantly with time. The disease burden of BPH increased with age, and those aged 60 to 84 years had the highest burden. In addition, the disease burden increased with the increase of socio-demographic index (SDI) in all three countries. 【Conclusion】 The disease burden of BPH was very heavy in China, Japan and South Korea, especially in China. Males aged 60 to 84 years were the high-risk group. Targeted intervention should be adopted for these population.

ABSTRACT

Objective:In view of the shortage of new coronavirus nucleal acid test in the early COVID-19 outbreak, the application value of chest CT in screening COVID-19 patients was explored. Methods:Retrospective analysis was performed on the data of patients with fever who received chest CT and new coronavirus nucleal acid test during January 25, 2020 to February 2, 2020 in Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University. A total of 587 patients were enrolled, including 290 males and 297 females, aged from 11.0 to 96.0 (51.3±17.1) years old. Taking the nucleic acid test results as the gold standard, the sensitivity, specificity and rate of misdiagnosis of CT screening were calculated. Results:Among the 587 patients, there were 433 positive cases (73.8%, 433/587) and 154 negative cases (26.2%, 154/587) of novel coronavirus nucleic acid test. Using CT screening, 494 cases (84.2%, 494/587) were positive and 93 cases (15.8%, 93/587) were negative. The sensitivity of CT screening was 97.7% (423/433), specificity was 53.9% (83/154) and rate of misdiagnosis was 2.3% (10/433).Conclusions:In the early COVID-19 outbreak, CT screening has the advantages of high sensitivity and low rate of misdiagnosis, which can compensate for the shortage of new coronavirus nucleal acid test and can be used as a rapid screening for early prevention and control.

ABSTRACT

Meta-analysis used for genetic association studies became popular among researchers, with the amount of published papers increased rapidly. In this paper,we will focus on the introduction on the selection of genetic models.Traditionally, methods used for Meta-analysis on genetic association studies was to calculate the statistics based on available genetic models which not only increasing the probability of false-positives but also making the interpretation of results more difficult.Hence,a critical step in the Meta-analysis of genetic association studies was to choose the appropriate inheritance model. The aim of this paper was to introduce the theory of Bayesian analysis regarding the genetic model-free approach,in performing the Meta-analysis for studies related to genetic associations.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUNDThe objective of this study was to analyze the trend in the publication of systematic reviews on hip fractures through a bibliometric approach.

METHODSLiterature including systematic reviews or meta-analyses on hip fractures was searched from the ISI Web of Science citation database. The search results were analyzed in terms of geographical authorship and frequency of citation by country, institution, author, and periodical distribution.

RESULTSA total of 654 published systematic reviews from 1995 to 2013 in 48 countries or regions were retrieved. The United States (171) was the predominant country in terms of the number of total publications, followed by the United Kingdom (149), Canada (120), Australia (76), and China (54). The number of systematic reviews significantly increased during the last 6 years, especially in China. The production ranking changed in 2012, at which time the United States and China were the leaders in the yearly production of systematic reviews on hip fractures. The amount of literature (27 publications) from China contributed almost one-quarter of the total literature (109 publications) in 2012. However, the average number of citations of each article from China was still low (6.70), while the highest number of citations of each article was from Sweden (193.36). The references were published in 239 different journals, with 15 journals contributing to 41.3% of the systematic reviews on hip fractures. The two journals that contributed the most were Osteoporosis International (10.6%) and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (7.6%). The predominant institution in terms of the number of publications was McMaster University (36) in Canada.

CONCLUSIONSThe best evidence in the field of hip fractures has attracted increasing attention. Systematic reviews on hip fractures from China have been increasingly more frequent during the past 6 years, particularly in 2012.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture as adjuvant treatment in the management of diabetic foot (DF).Methods We searched MEDLINE,Embase,CENTRAL,SinoMed,VIP,CNKI and WANFANG database. We also searched the bibliographies of retrieved articles and correlated proceedings and collected the literatures of DF of clinically randomized or quasi-randomized control trials of acupuncture as adjuvant treatment. After the data was extracted independently by 2 reviewers,we performed meta-analysis by using RevMan 5.1 software. Results Seven studies included 626 patients who met the inclusion criteria, and all employed clinical effects as evaluation indicator.Meta-analysis showed that acupuncture as adjuvant treatment could obviously improve the total effectiveness rate(RR =1.29,95% CI:1.20,1.38,P < 0.00001)and the recovery rate(RR =1.92,95% CI:1.60,2.30,P < 0.00001 ).No adverse reactions occured. Conclusions The limited current evidence shows that acupuncture as adjuvant treatment is safe and effective in the treatment of DF.Due to the poor quality of original studies,a prudent choice is suggested.Further studies with high quality and large samples according to CONSORT are also warrant.
